Včasih se zgodi, da prevod nehote izzove veliko smeha.
In a Japanese hotel
- “You are invited to take advantage of the chambermaid.”
(Vabimo vas, da izkoristite sobarico.)
Comment: It should be ‘You are invited to use our chambermaid’s services.’
In a Russian hotel
- “You are welcome to visit the cemetery where famous Russian and Soviet composers, artists, and writers are buried daily except Thursdays.”
(Vabljeni ste na obisk pokopališča, kjer so slavni ruski in sovjetski skladatelji, umetniki in pisatelji pokopani dnevno, razen ob četrtkih.)
Comment: Don’t worry they were all buried long ago, but you can make trips to the cemetery daily, except on Thursdays.
In a Paris hotel elevator
- “Please leave your values at the front desk.”
(Prosimo, pustite vaše vrednote v recepciji.)
Comment: They probably meant ‘leave your valuables’, such as jewellery or money, not ‘values’ like cleanliness, carefulness or even self-control?
In the office of a Rome doctor
- “Specialist in women and other diseases.”
(Specialist za ženske in ostale bolezni.)
Comment: This sounds rather offensive. It should be ‘specialist in women diseases and other’.
On a Malaga freeway
- “Locals for sale or rent.”
(Domačini naprodaj ali v najem.)
Comment: Although ‘locals’ means local people or residents, it may also refer to the neighbourhood bar or local bus and train. But the sign should be ‘Bar for sale or rent’.
